Best wishes in this new year to all the Sewing Savvy readers! Let's kick off the new year with some new clothes for the dolls in your lives! They might be dolls that belong to children or grandchildren, or dolls that are your own display pieces. Whether you make your own dolls, collect a certain line or know some special children with a cherished doll, this is the opportunity to create some new styles for a treasured doll. Dolls come in so many different shapes and sizes, and each has a personality all its own, often determined by the owner.

Some dolls have vintage costumes that harken back to a favorite era. Others are playthings with trunks full of outfits for each new adventure dreamed up by a child, and why not? Doll clothes are often a fun part of childhood and encourage children to use their imaginations. Toy sellers estimate that 23,000 American Girl® dolls and over 94 million Barbie® dolls are sold each year, proving that simple toy dolls may change each year, but they have been popular toys for a very long time. The first toy dolls are estimated to be over 4,000 years old!
