Table Mat With Fun Prairie Point Border

Supplies

• 1 charm pack*
• 1/3 yard each of two coordinating prints*
• 1/3 yard cotton quilt batting
• Basic sewing tools and supplies
• *All fabrics in sample are from Eat Your Fruits & Veggies by Pat Sloan for Moda.

Instructions

Note: All seams including basting are 1/2 inch.

1. Using 14 coordinating squares from the charm pack, fold each square diagonally from corner to corner, wrong sides together, to make a half-square triangle.
2. Fold the half-square triangle in half again along its longest edge as shown in Diagram A; be sure to align the edges. Press well. This will produce one prairie point; repeat to create a total of 14.
3. Each border will consist of seven prairie points. With the raw edges of the prairie point facing down, open the fold along the side and insert a second prairie point. Continue adding opening and inserting prairie points (shown in Diagram B), adjusting the length of the border to measure 14 inches.
4. Baste across the bottom edge of the prairie points. (Diagram C)
5. Cut two 15 x 25-inch rectangles, cutting one from each of the prints.
6. With right sides together, pin the prairie point border to the right side of one of the rectangles.
7. Pin a 15 x 25-inch rectangle of batting to the top of the wrong side of the second rectangle.
8. Pin the batting/fabric layer on top of the first rectangle with right sides together.
9. Stitch around the circumference leaving a 3-inch opening along one side. Turn right side out and press.
10. Hand-stitch the opening closed.
11. Sew two rows of the topstitching around the edges of the table mat, spacing them as desired.
