Marvelous Crochet Motifs

October 1, 2014

One of my nieces has been inspiring me to get out my crochet hooks and get busy. She just learned how to crochet and her first project was a rippled blanket and it turned out beautiful. Now she is working a granny square blanket. So I decide to get out a book I received from Annie's. Marvelous Crochet Motifs™ is a 64-page book filled with 48 different motifs than can be used in a myriad of projects-including the four in this book. The book instructs readers how to make a dynamic assortment of motifs to add dimension to works-in-progress or create an artistic, motif-filled project all by itself. In addition to written instructions, each motif is also accompanied by a stitch diagram as a visual aid to crocheters. There are even half motifs included in this book to fill in space or add shape to an otherwise solid afghan, shrug or scarf. What I really like is that the instructions are very use to read and understand. I haven't done any crocheting for years and this got me right back on track. I also love all the examples and different and easy to do patterns. Ellen Gormley the designer of the book has been crocheting since she was 10 years old. She began her design career in 2004 and has stitched more than 80 afghans before becoming a full-time crafter. Within the crochet community, Ellen is particularly well-known for her stylish and join-as-you-go designs. She has more than 200 designs from garments and home decor to accessories and afghans. Since early 2014, Ellen has been the new editor for Annie's Crochet! magazine.
