Trouble the Cat is ready for spring in this lovely quilt pattern as he observes bluebirds in the trees and buds springing up everywhere. The pattern features patchwork and strip quilting, but alternatives are suggested for those who don’t feel so inclined. Fused and machine-stitched applique is used, and you can even personalize it by using beads and thread painting for embellishment. Even better, it’s precut friendly! Finished size is 23" x 27".

I agree with the previous reviewer (Donna) about the tree branches. I just used a dark brown subtle print for the tree trunk and branches. I also eliminated some of the really skinny branches as well. I chose to do the hillsides a bit differently as well, in a more patchwork/strip design, and increased the width of the window pane strips slightly. I haven't finished yet, but will be adding the black cat soon. I will add 1/4" seam allowance all around and applique/turn edge as is my preference. All in all a really cute design, but I think the use of tiny patchwork squares for the tree branches is ridiculously difficult, and I am an experiences quilter, so...

Really cute, creative pattern. However, the branches are difficult to work with when cut from the pieced brown fabrics. If I were to make this quilt again, I would use mottled fabric instead. Also, the instructions for attaching the cat were nonexistent, and I ended up having to invent a way to do it.

Donna - Instructions for the cat are included. Here's what is provided. "The cat is printed in 2 pieces, but not in reverse as it won't be fused. Trace the 2 parts together onto tissue & cut out your cat. Arrange it on the window & machine stitch in place. The eye, the inner ear & nose are fused & applied in the same manner as the birds were earlier (just remember in this case to reverse the inner ear & nose on the pattern). Machine stitch all the cat detail lines with grey thread. The little tuft of hair on the chest is machine stitched in white."
