Get to Know Ellen Gormley

Behind the scenes at Knit and Crochet Now!, Lena Skvagerson and the whole Knit and Crochet Now! team are cooking up some great treats for us. Speaking of team, I got to chat with our resident crochet expert, Ellen Gormley. She and I have been friends for years, and I can truly say she is such an amazing teacher and creative designer. She knows how much I just adore her use of color and motifs. Ellen is the author of some of my favorite crochet books, including Go Crochet! Afghan Design Workbook. You can check out her recent musings on her blog, Go Crochet. And if you can't wait to learn more from her this season, you can always check out her great classes at AnniesOnlineClasses.com. Ellen has been with the Knit and Crochet Now! team for quite a while, so I asked her to tell us a few random facts about her that we might not know.

Little-known facts about Ellen:
  • I started out my college career as a photography major.
  • I was the editor of my high school yearbook because I didn't make a third year on the volleyball team. Everything happens for a reason.
  • I'm a late-onset athlete. I started running at 39, running 20 steps, then walking 50. I've now run 10 half-marathons.
  • The first car I ever drove was my stepfather's prized 1933 Chevy in the field by the house because he had spent the day painting car parts without proper ventilation.
  • If it's not chocolate, it's not worth it.
  • I'm not loyal to any one hook brand; I can use them all.
  • There is still room in this world for well-placed fringe.
