First, let me say that I agree with the negative reviews: Lion Brand Shawl-in-a-Ball is frustrating, snarly, hard to gauge, impossible to frog, etc. I knitted a simple triangular shawl, - UGLY - and immediately frogged it. BUT - Grab a ball, a pair of US 7 needles, and knit a brioche stitch scarf.
MAGIC!! STUNNING!! All the negatives and the quirks of this cranky, difficult yarn are somehow made irrelevant, or even attractive, with the brioche rib stitch and the slightly over-sized needles. The scarf is feather-light, soft, drapes beautifully, and even one ball makes a lush and cuddly scarf of generous proportions. (Although the metallics are a little less cuddly.) The colors are subtle graduations, rather than abrupt changes. I wish I could post pictures!! Any garment or accessory that can be constructed of rectangles in brioche stitch will work THIS IS NOW MY GO-TO YARN FOR BRIOCHE KNITS!

Saw some really pretty shawls so I ordered it in more than one color. Big mistake! You have zero chance of frogging anything, given that I ultimately gave up on ripping out a single row. Cutting the yarn and starting over doesn't work unless you want only two-thirds of a rainbow.

Overall, the quality seemed poor and the yarn itself was actually quite unattractive when viewed other than at a distance.

Given how much time a project takes, I prefer to spend a bit more and get something better.

Some colors are pretty. Yarn itself, not as substantial as I had expected. Can't see any use for it for me.

Love the color but not easy to work with. Has varying thickness as you go along. Hard to keep your tension so my project is not uniform.

I've worked with better yarns. Boucle is easy to fray and there was knots in the skein yarn. Not one bit impressed!
