Hoops & scissors

An embroidery hoop or scroll frame is recommended by many stitchers for cross-stitch. However, many stitchers prefer to stitch "in hand" holding the fabric loosely with their non-stitching hand and avoiding the bulkiness of a hoop.

A pair of small, sharp embroidery scissors is very helpful, especially with doing delicate work such as whitework, Hardanger or drawn thread. Only use your embroidery scissors for cutting thread, never metallic threads or fabrics. The metallic thread can leave small nicks in your prized blades and the sizing in the fabric may leave an undesireable residue on your scissors.
