Skill Level: Beginner
Susan Lowman loves to crochet -- especially with crochet thread -- and can't imagine a day without crochet! Susan learned to crochet in the 1970s and has been designing professionally since 1999. Her very first published design, Snowflake Doily & Coaster, was purchased by Annie's and sold as a kit in 2000. Since then, Susan has had more than 150 original crochet designs published in various books, magazines and leaflets. She is a frequent contributor to Crochet World magazine, published by Annie's. In 2012, a collection of her creative dishcloths was also published by Annie's in a pattern book called Wiggly Crochet Dishcloths.
One of Susan's professional achievements was receiving a "Flamie Award" in 2011 for "Best Crochet Design for 3-D Objects" for her Dragon Ship design, which was published as a web bonus in Crochet World magazine's February 2011 issue.
Susan is a proud member of CGOA (Crochet Guild of America), secretary on the CGOA Board, liaison to the Masters Committee, as well as co-chair and senior portfolio reviewer for the Masters Committee. As a Craft Yarn Council Certified Crochet Instructor and Teacher, she teaches regularly at the annual CGOA Chain Link Conference.
Susan owns and operates her own website, TheCrochetArchitect.com, where she blogs about crochet. You can see photos from her video shoot and trip to Annie's headquarters in Berne, Ind., at her website. Susan is also a technical crochet editor, having edited patterns for Crochet Today magazine for 5 1/2 years and for Creative Partners, LLC since 2004.
Susan is thankful for the gift of creativity that God has given her and cannot imagine a day without crochet in one form or another!

Customer Reviews for Beginner's First Doily:
I had some lessons off of my neighbor's friend a while back but I still wasn't confident to read charts and actually make things. I purchased this class in the recent Anne's sale; I've watched the video twice and bought the wool to start the project.
Why buy this class, I've been looking for a class for ages that would help me get the basics right and this fitted the bill. I like the fact that you can stop and replay as many times as you want until you get it, I really need this. Clear verbal and visuals which are important and they explain all the small steps involved in making the project. For the money it was an absolute bargain! I also purchased Lily Chin's other crochet classes so I have progression. Plus, I have access to these classes forever.
My goal is to make a crochet garment for myself I am on my way now to achieving this. As a person from Wales in the UK I have to remember some of the different stitch terminology for UK patterns and the different names for the wool but nothing wrong with bilingualism.
Thank you from a very happy customer.
