Once upon a time, women graced their homes with beautiful linens embellished with hand stitchery of all kinds. Tablecloths, napkins, runners, pillowcases, handkerchiefs and more were a point of pride among women with social standing. In the 1930s and '40s, Swedish weaving and huck embroidery were among the most popular needlecraft techniques. Five simple and easy-to-learn stitches make up this craft, and now you can learn them in just a little over one hour!

Join Swedish weaving and huck embroidery expert Katherine Kennedy and discover for yourself the ease and elegance of this craft. Katherine explains in detail which fabrics, threads and needles are suitable for Swedish weaving and huck embroidery. Then, she demonstrates each basic stitch step by step as you follow along.

In this class you'll learn how to:
  • Choose fabrics, threads and needles for stitching projects.
  • Work the basic stitches including the straight stitch, slant stitch, loop stitch, double-loop stitch and twisted loop stitch.
  • Read a Swedish weave and huck embroidery chart.
  • Work loop stitches into letters or shapes to add personalization.
  • Finish projects with a pretty, multicolored fringed edge.
  • Stitch a holiday ornament from start to finish during the video.
Class includes complete instructions to make eight exclusive projects from five Swedish weave and huck embroidery designs: Crossroads Runner and Afghan, Tulip Wheel Place Mat & Napkin Ring, Skylark Tote, Arrowhead Towel, and the Holiday Charm Ornament & Card.

I liked this class and didn't find it too fast to comprehend. I was glad for the info on fabric types and the best thread types for each, which I hadn't found in any book. I'm doing a practice piece and had a question that wasn't answered, but I emailed Katherine and hope to get an answer soon.

This class is not very good. She just assumes we all know exactly what to do. I wish she would have shown more how to follow the patterns and went slower on the first small projects so we could understand better how the stitches were done. All I am getting out of this class is total frustration.

The instructor perhaps forgets what it's like to be a beginner. She moves too fast on the stitches and does not explain where she is going on the cloth. The video is shot at a side glance and therefore it leaves it troublesome to see where she is going with the next stitch or how far down she is going. Love the embroidery and the instructor is very knowledgeable but not great at teaching,

I will be watching the class many more times as I go along in learning this craft. I thought Katherine did a really nice job showing the stitches and going over the stitch types twice is a big help. I'm glad she showed the finishing techniques in such detail. I have been a cross stitcher for years and was delighted that this can also be done on Aida cloth. it's a nice switch up and less time-consuming than doing a full cross stitch design but would also make very nice borders for cross stitch designs. if you are interested in Swedish weaving I would recommend this inexpensive tutorial which can be watched as much as you like.

Hello, I love the class the instructor is very knowledgeable and knows the craft very well. Sometimes the video looks blurry and cuts off a little but overall is a great class I'm happy with the purchase. I do have a question what kind of material is Cordonne I don't know if I'm spelling the word the right way, but I'm interested in that thread or yarn but I can't find any information. I'll appreciate it if the instructor shares that information. Thank you very much.
