Not sure if I am doing something wrong with this pattern or if the pattern is incorrect. Followed the directions line for line and my stitches look nothing like the picture and the length of the hat is nowhere near the same as the picture. Like I said, I am a novice crocheter so it might very well be me but I really think the pattern is wrong. Either the type of stitch and number of rows or something is missing. Will still be a cute hat, just not as cute as the picture.

Teresa - We don't have any revisions on this pattern but we do have the following that may help.
These rnds are worked in continuous rnds so you don’t join them at the end. You do mark the first stitch so you know when you have completed a rnd.
Rnd 3 has 2 *. One at the beginning and one at the end of the row, you will repeat between the 2 * all the way around and you will end with 21 sts.
Rnd 4 has 2 * also and is worked in the same manner as rnd 3 ending with 28 sts.
Rnd 6 clarification
For those having trouble working rnd 6 of the Hat, this may work better:
Rnd 6: Sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc, *sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, sc in last 3 sc, 42 sts.
Regarding Rnd 6: I have the increases purposely staggered- which leaves the ending with an odd number. I do that a lot in my patterns, it makes a more perfect circle, and hides the increases. The crown looks smoother and more seamless. If the increases are all taken in the same place it forms a line running out- which can be a design statement.
