Make a hat that lets you wear your bun or ponytail. This sweet set uses a romantic star stitch texture, and the cowl is long enough to wrap twice around your neck if the wind kicks in. Knit with 1 ball for the hat and 2 balls for the cowl of #4 worsted-weight Red Heart Unforgettable using U.S. size 8/5mm 16" and 32" circular and double-point needles. Two balls is enough to make the whole set in any size. View Autumn Glow Collection

ANNIE'S SIGNATURE DESIGNS: Autumn Dust Messy Bun Hat & Cowl Knit Pattern

March 24, 2018

The yarn is very pretty: however, it does split easily. This pattern gave me fits with the knitted stars. I had trouble keeping them in line. I am not an expert knitter but have knitted for over 50 years. I was not familiar with the knitted stars. I did some research and they are also purled. The main problem I had was the stitches twisting. I simply could not keep them straight. I think, if I try this pattern again, I will knit several rows before I begin the pattern. That may help keep the stitches from twisting, I could not make the cowl so I made a scarf. It is a beautiful pattern and My granddaughter is very happy to get the "scarf" not a cowl and the messy bun hat. I think this pattern is for a more experienced knitter.
