Herringbone Stitch

Appearance in pattern - HB

The Herringbone stitch is a wonderful decorative stitch that is engagingly simple, yet adds complexity to any design. The interweaving quality of the stitch marches unerringly across the fabric and creates rows of exact little peaks and valleys. Working from left to right across the fabric, bring needle from back to front at 1. Using a sewing motion, take needle from front to back to front at the 2 and 3, and again at 4 and 5; continue as shown in illustration.
