Music to My Soul: Original Crochet Instrument Blanket Pack

I just finished making the guitar blanket for my son. I used the color "Theater" and "Ivory". The Ivory yarn is Hobby Lobby yarn Yarn Bee Soft Secret. The most challenging part was finding the white yarn in the same weight and thickness as Red Heart roll with its Melange yarn. I used the written instructions and a locking stitch marker to mark the center of the guitar as this made it easier for me to keep track of where I was in the pattern. I had never done a half-double crochet foundation chain row so watching the video was a must. Once you do the foundation chain and the first row, the pattern is pretty easy. The instructions say to count your stitches and I would definitely agree. It is too easy to lose or increase stitches by mistake and not realizing. There are a total of 122 rows and I crocheted 10 rows per day so it is a pretty quick project to finish. I am now starting to make a second one using Red Heart roll with it Melange yarn in "Curtain Call" and plan on making a third in the same color as the picture. Everyone who sees the blanket wants one! sigh

I found the pattern easy to follow. I did look up their video to see how to do the base row. I had not started a project that way before. I used cream in place of the white and the mixed color I used had more blue and burgundy in it. This was a gift for my husband, and he loves it. It is well worth all of the counting. I wish I could submit a photo

This pattern took me a little effort to get started but is well worth the struggle. It has a link to an online tutorial for the beginning row and I highly recommend that you view it. I ended up using a hook one size larger than called for to do the beginning row. I also followed the printed directions instead of the chart. I marked each row as I finished it so I wouldn't get lost. They recommend you count your stitches every row. This is a must. I got to feeling pretty sure of myself and stopped counting. I ended up having to tear out three rows because I was losing stitches. I made the guitar blanket. It was fun to watch the guitar "grow" as I crocheted row after row. I didn't want to put it down. The finished blanket is beautiful. If you don't use the yarn called for in the pattern, make sure your yarn sizes match. I started with mandala (4) for the main color and Red Heart (4) for the white. The white was much heavier than the Mandala even though they were both 4. I ended up switching to Bernat baby Soft for the white because I had it on hand. I highly recommend using the same brand of yarn throughout. I just didn't want to wait until I could order and get the yarn so I used what I had quick access to.
