Nancy Scott grew up on a farm in northeastern Indiana. When not busy with livestock chores, she spent most of her time with Grandma Scott, who was an avid hand quilter. On a daily basis, it wasn't unusual to walk into Grandma Scott's house and find the kitchen table covered with cardboard templates, fabrics and quilt blocks in progress. At one end of the living room, there was typically a quilt frame set up. Neighbor ladies frequently stopped in to join in the hand stitching. By the time Nancy went to kindergarten, she was already helping layer the quilt back, batting and top to get it ready for the frame.
It was from these beginnings that Nancy developed her love of quilts. Nancy completed 4-H projects in sewing and quilting. She enjoyed making a lot of her own clothes and has always enjoyed fabrics, textures, creating and the design process. She started making her own quilted wall hangings as a teenager and won several awards for her hand quilting while in 4-H.
Twenty years later, while Nancy was contemplating a career change, a friend invited her over to "play" on her longarm quilting machine. While it may not have been "love at first stitch," Nancy definitely saw the possibilities. Within a few months she purchased a longarm quilting machine and started Masterpiece Quilting LLC in 2006. Since then her business as evolved to include longarm quilting services using both computerized and free-motion patterns along with custom-made quilts, show quilts and pattern design. Nancy has also authored the Annie's book T-shirts, Memories & More.
Nancy started making T-shirt quilts in 2006 due to customer requests. In an effort to keep custom-order quilts fresh and unique for her customers, Nancy is constantly experimenting with new layouts. She considers T-shirt quilts to be a snapshot of a person's life and accomplishments. Each one is as unique as the recipient.
