Whip up these cute and functional Microwave Cozies for your kitchen in a flash! They are perfectly sized to hold a bowl of soup or 12-inch serving dish. The corners make it easy to safely remove hot dishes from the microwave oven without burning your fingers.

In this Learn, Make, Create! episode brought to you by Annie's Creative Studio, quilting and sewing expert Heather Valentine demonstrates how to get the most out of this oh-so-functional pattern. Follow her tips to sew a simple three-piece set in just one day. You may find that this set is perfect to keep or give away as a gift.

In this episode, you'll learn how to:
  • Stabilize the fabric layers with simple quilting.
  • Create a three-dimensional fit with darts.
  • Add binding for a clean finish.
Finished Sizes:
Small Cozy: 6 1/4" x 6 1/4" x 2"
Medium Cozy: 8 1/4" x 8 1/4" x 2"
Large Cozy: 12 1/4" x 12 1/4" x 2"

Materials to make one set of three cozies -- small, medium and large:
  • 1/8 yard each orange and blue dot
  • 1/4 yard pink dot
  • 1/2 yard each butterfly print and black-with-white dot
  • Cotton batting
  • Cotton thread
  • Basic sewing tools and supplies

  • Note: It is important to use only 100% cotton fabric, batting and thread for these cozies, because polyester may melt in the microwave, and materials with metallic fibers can cause the microwave to arc.
